September 2005 InCider Press Page 5
Thanks for all of the good work prior to and for making all of our guests feel welcome at the Open House on Thursday, September 15. This was held during our Society’s UCANSING2 week. We had 26 guests in attendance and Bill Hanson sent letters of thanks to each one inviting them to return. 105 persons were counted present including the guests, guests’ wives and family members, members’ wives and members.
Of the twenty guests from whom we received completed guest survey forms, 13 said they are likely to return to another meeting and 6 said maybe. Four said they would like to join and 16 said maybe about joining. Ten guests wanted more information about membership and 5 said maybe.
Our guests have considerable amount of music experience: 16 sang in high school, 10 sang in college, 7 have sung in barbershop already, 4 are experienced in musical theater, 14 sang in a church or community college and 10 are experienced in instrumental music. One person has not sung, 1 has been a musical educator and 1 is seeking experience/voice training.
Thanks for all of the welcoming and greeting the guests. Everyone was greeted by someone when they arrived and were invited to return. All were introduced to the membership. So thanks to all who welcomed and visited with our guests before and during our refreshment period.
Guests were asked what they liked most about their experience at our meeting. The most revealing, but not surprising, response was that our guests liked singing. Thirteen said singing is what they most enjoyed. Others had variations on this: they liked the harmonization and the fellowship. One guest said that he was very pleased with the way he was made to feel welcome. Others liked the friendly people, the camaraderie, the relaxed nature of the evening, and meeting folks.
Bill has sent out letters to all of our 26 guests saying, we were delighted that they came to our Open House and that is “Our hope, of course, is to grow our chapter, and we hope that you might help us do that. More importantly, however, is that we hope that you enjoyed the evening, enjoyed our type of music, and would be interested in being with a bunch of guys who like to have a good time and make good music.”
So guys, you did a great job. Now it is follow-up time for each of us and inviting our guests to return. Call those you invited and other members call those you know. Maybe, as one member suggested, we can host them by picking them up and bringing them to the meetings.
To our Directors, we are grateful and thankful for your excellent music leadership during the evening and letting our guests know about Barbershop singing by explaining the nature of our chording.
Thanks to all of our wives who contributed to the evening. We could not have done it without all of the hospitality you showed in greeting people, helping with the registration, and providing and serving the refreshments. We extend a special thanks to you Telva Swenson and Carol Hanson for your organization and leadership.
