September 2005 InCider Press Page 7
Although we have a performance on November 11th (Veteran's Day) at the American Legion Club, and hopefully some Christmas time performances, we are diligently working on our show music for next spring. We have had the mission or objective to have three songs learned (off the music) by the end of September. I have no doubt that we will make this goal. They are:
"He"
"When It's Night Time in Dixieland"
Dream A Little Dream with Me".
We have seen all but three (maybe four) of the songs we will sing on the show, so we are well on our way to putting our show together. A new "learning chart" will be published in the next couple of weeks.
Kudos to all those men who invited guests to UCanSing2. Wow, what a turn out! Now we have to follow up and when they return make them feel like they have been with us forever. Most, if not all of them, appeared to have a good time. Thanks to the distaff, too, for making the wives of the guests feel so welcome. Obviously this helps immensely.
I really feel that we are doing our part in helping to "Keep the Whole World Singing". It is the most fun, however, when we have 100% attendance. Hope to see everyone next week!

The following information is an edited version of the invitation sent by Lee Richards, President of the Hutchinson Salt Minors Chorus, to President Terry, and forwarded to us in an e-mail dated Sept. 18. Our Board had decided not to participate in this as a chorus, but individual members are invited to sing, just as individual members choose to sing at the State Fair. If this is something you are interested in doing, there will be a sign-up at our Sept. 22 meeting, or you can email me directly at
sfisher@oznet.ksu.edu, and I will forward your name to Lee.
"The Kansas Men’s Barbershop Harmony Chorus was approached and invited by the Abilene Chamber of Commerce to participate in Abilene, Kansas 1st Annual "Fall Music Festival". It is scheduled to run October 21, 22 and 23rd. Friday evening is the opening at the Eisenhower Center and will be a Bob Hope USO style event.
We have been asked to sing in the Emmanuel Church in Abilene, on Saturday morning, October 22, from 11:00 A.M. until noon. Their church will accommodate 500 people. I would hope our chapters either collectively or individually would have an interest in performing our favorite Barbershop Chorus style of singing on that date.... We can plan on singing our State Fair renditions for this outing."
Next Performance Opportunity for Individual Members

As the newsletter editor was putting this newsletter together I knew that if I didn't write something soon I would soon be hearing, "Where's yours?"
What a way to have a membership drive OPEN HOUSE. I was so pleased with the way the members really took hold of the things that Bill and Harvey worked so hard on to make our membership drive a success. The Open House brought the prospects in and now we need to follow-up with personal contacts to help these prospects to become members. As we learned from some of the society information, personal contact following a big event is the most successful way to bring these people into our chapter. Why don't you be the one to help sign the next baritone in your section or lead that has that great idea for next years show. Or maybe if you ask your friend to come back again they will replace you on the board. The purpose of new member drives is to improve our numbers, improve our diversity and grow our hobby as a beneficial community asset.
Elsewhere in this newsletter Don Thomson writes about show music and keeps us abreast of things going on in show preparations. It is so much easier to be ready for our spring show when you attend regularly.
Remember to ask that contact to come again; help him to feel welcome, find the music and join us in the great hobby of singing Barbershop Style.
