Ned Valentine

New member - Ned Valentine

Ned Valentine is publisher of the Clay Center Dispatch, a daily, and the Washington County News, a weekly.  The Valentine family has been in the newspaper business in Clay Center since the 80's. (1880's).

Ned graduated from journalism school at KU, but his son Lou, 28, graduated K-State and is currently working on his graduate degree in audiology at East Tennessee State University.  Ned has a son, Daniel, 25 and a daughter Elizabeth, 21 and brand new twin grandsons.

He's done very little singing since he was a member of the Tiger Chorale, the top vocal group at Clay Center Community High School in the 1960s, taught by his uncle, Jim Martyn, who preceded Ken Lang in the position.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

We've recently seen several chapter bulletins that incorrectly list the Society name. The name is correctly written as: Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc.
Note that it is Barber Shop -- two words -- not Barbershop.

Another point: In the Society logo the letters appear with periods (
S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A.), but in text they should be written without periods (SPEBSQSA).
