You now have a learning schedule for the music for the annual show in April. That may seem like a long time from now, but let me remind you that we have a Thanksgiving holiday next month; we are still rehearsing for a performance on November 11th at the American Legion where we will be singing songs that will not be on the show; we have an installation banquet on a Thursday evening in December as well as the holidays to contend with; in January we will be spending some time on preparation for Singing Valentines; and we have performance in Clay Center in early April.

Yes, April will come very quickly, so staying on top of the learning schedule will be very important. Many of you take time to learn the music at home and are prepared when you get to Thursday evening rehearsals; others seem to only look at the music on Thursday evenings. You have to determine what works best for you, but we certainly owe it to each other to be prepared for rehearsals so that the director can move us forward each week. It seems that our director has to "re-teach" too many things too often. This can be very discouraging not only to our director, but to other singers in the chorus. Please don't be one of those who slows down the progress of the chorus because he doesn't know the music, can't remember what has been taught from week to week, or has a lackadaisical attendance record. Chorus singing is a "team sport". We need and depend on each other. Make sure that you are sitting next to someone in your section during rehearsal (don't sit off by yourself); listen carefully to other singers to be sure that you are singing in tune with them; listen carefully and thoughtfully to the directions from Ken each week; then think about them during the week. These things will help immensely with the continuity of our chorus.

Every one of the songs in the show this year is a quality song. Each song has very intricate passages. This is going to be a dynamite show...only if we sing each song with precision and clarity. This takes a lot of repetitions with everyone in attendance. I hope that you can make Thursday evenings a high priority between now and April. See you Thursday evening!
