Just before I started to write this article I read the text of the speech that Ed Watson gave at Harmony College 2005. I would hope that all of you read this in the Harmonizer. It got me to thinking about our chapter and some of the things we do both as individuals and as a chapter. If we are not having as much fun from our hobby as we would like, are we doing something about it? Since I accepted the leadership role in this chapter I need to hear about the things you like and dislike at all levels of our hobby. Do we need to change to make it more enjoyable for you? I know I come to sing. The more we sing the better I like that long drive to be here each week. I think that you all know that John and I come about an hour to sing on Thursday night with people we consider to be friends. But not only friends but fellow singers.
Ask yourself, what can I do to make my night at chapter meeting better? Then ask yourself what I can do to make the whole chapter better. I don’t think I need to go farther with this because I think you get the message. We have the music leadership to be really good at our craft. I would hope that the officers would be able to lead, mostly behind the scenes, to make each week enjoyable for you. The Barbershop Harmony Society is changing, the world is changing and each of us changes every day. We need the vision to adapt to the things we cannot change, enjoy to the utmost the things we like and tolerate the unimportant little things.
Come to each chapter meeting ready to sing and enjoy our hobby. Talk to the officers that conduct most of the chapter business behind the scenes about improvements you would like both for this chapter and the society. We will be having POD meetings again soon to have feedback to the CSD officers. We can only give our own opinion if you don’t tell us what you would want different.
All members are welcome at COTS in Omaha November 19 &20. Officers are really encouraged to go at chapter expense. Reservations are due now. Talk to me as soon as possible.

The members of the Little Apple Chorus and wives enjoyed the CSD Convention in Des Moines October 7 and 8, 2005, as you can see by all the smiles. |
