Its birthday time for Men of a Chord. Tenor John Desper and bari Steve Fisher celebrate November birthdays within a few days of each other. And it was about this time of the year two years ago that Ken Lyle, hoping to assemble a quartet to participate in the Chorus' Singing Valentines activities, talked to Steve, John and bass Tom Miles about forming such a quartet. By the time that Chapter meeting was over, Men of a Chord, though not named at that time was assembled. We enjoyed singing together from the outset, have apparently learned to accept our various quirks of personality and have continued to try to improve our musical skills.

We are especially grateful that John Desper has adjusted his teaching schedule so that he can attend Chapter meetings on Thursdays. Our four members regularly attend Chapter meetings and are honored by being frequently called upon to bring us back from break with a song. Men of a Chord supports all Chapter functions throughout the year and is usually present for all performances. We have been struggling to earn the Barber pole Cat distinction as a quartet, but progress has been slow. We are about halfway there and plan to keep plugging away (Myron, be patient!).

We eagerly await the safe return of our honorary member, Sgt Richard Jackson, from his second tour in Iraq and will be glad to have him participating in Chorus activities again. In addition to the many Chorus performances, Men of a Chord has appeared for a couple of birthday celebrations and on July 4, performed at a brunch which was held in a beautifully landscaped back yard adorned with hundreds of daylilies. We sang a collection of patriotic songs, e.g., America the Beautiful Overlay, God Bless the USA, on a gorgeous, sunny morning with little wind to hamper our vocal performance. MoaC will perform Christmas music at the Konza Prairie reception and at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in December.
