the same chapter as the two members mentioned above.  The Manhattan Chapter and the Central States District are fortunate to have the services of these dedicated and hardworking Barbershoppers.  Knowing and singing with Bob and Leonard, along with the entire membership of the Chapter makes me proud to say at District and Society Events--"I'm from Manhattan, Kansas".

Did you ever wonder how that great idea of yours could get put into action?  Do you have a suggestion to improve our chapter in some way?  Do you want to see our chapter operate a little differently in either some small or rather big way?  Well, gentlemen, that is all possible if you know how to do it!

Some of our newer members may wonder how our chapter seems to get along with its regular meetings organized so well, yet there seems to be little time for discussing things, much less trying to decide what to do.  Yes, our meetings are packed full of music with only the minimum amount of time taken for announcements, welcoming guests, refreshments, and socializing.  And do you know what, most guys like it that way.   They came to sing and singing is what we provide.

So what about all this functional planning and business stuff?  When does it get done?  Your chapter board meets at least once each month for the purpose of conducting chapter business.  It is at these meetings where plans are made, opinions are voiced, reports are taken, direction is determined, and actions are approved.  By conducting

our business on a night other than chapter meeting night, we have the time to focus on the chapter's business yet do not detract from our singing activities during chapter meetings.

So now what about that idea you have?  Simple.  Just bring it to the board.  It's probably a good idea to suggest to the president that you want an opportunity to address the board with your idea, and I am sure permission will be granted at the next board meeting you are able to attend.  Then come prepared to explain and defend your suggestions.  Bring, as much support as you can, and I think you will find a very interested and enthusiastic board.

Board meetings are where the chapter business gets done.  They are definitely open meetings, and any chapter member is welcome to attend even if he has nothing to say.  So if you want an in depth look at how your chapter is able to operate so efficiently, come attend one of our board meetings.  There you will see the brains, muscle, and heart of our chapter at work.

So what about that idea of yours?  Bring it to us.  We also have ears!
