Salute to America

Hold High Freedom's Flame

Director Ken Lang
directs the audience as they join in singing
God Bless America

The ringing chords of Battle Hymn of the Republic, the Armed Forces Medley, God Bless America and The Stars Spangled Banner served as the grand finale of the Flint Hills Veterans Coalition's musical salute to America on Sunday, November 10, in the Manhattan Civic Auditorium.  In addition to the Little Apple Chorus, the musical salute featured a Bell Choir from the First Methodist Church, the Morris Hill Gospel Choir from Fort Riley, the Vaughn Bolton Band and the noted regional cowboy poet, Ron Wilson.

Having raced back from Omaha, Nebraska, President Mike Shepherd and five other Little Apple Chorus members who had attended the Chapter Officers Training Seminar (COTS) arrived on time to take part in a very meaningful afternoon of patriotic music.

The Little Apple Chorus's participation in this performance is but one example of community involvement throughout the year.  The Chorus's next activity in Manhattan will be the annual delivery of the joys of Christmas music to a number of the retirement centers.  During February, the Chorus will share its talents as it presents a concert in the neighboring city of Clay Center.  A number of stalwart chorus members, including our director, Ken Lang live in Clay Center.  The February concert will give the Chorus an opportunity to thank the citizens of Clay Center for their outstanding, continual support throughout the years.

Every Night is Guest Night
Please Come Sing With Us

"Every night is guest night" has been said many times during the past year by Rodney Stanfield, Vice President of Chapter Development (and President Elect for 2003).  Although there are "official" guest nights from time to time, Rodney means exactly what he says.  Guests are welcome at every chapter meeting.

If you are interested in experiencing the joys of Barbershop harmony, please visit with us at 7:30  p.m. each Thursday in the Harris Activity Center, 530 Poyntz Avenue in Manhattan, Kansas.  Follow the sounds to the ringing chords.
