(Continued from page 1) elected to serve with. HEARTLAND HARMONY HAPPENING A good time was had by all. There were some good classes. The attendance was definitely slim. I guess the summer schedule got in the way of many being able to come. There were about 45 in attendance. Our very own Noise Boys were on hand to handle the quartet coaching. I am sure there were good experiences to be had there. Only the Topeka Chapter took advantage of the Chorus Coaching session. Gary Drown and Ron Morden made a great presentation concerning show preparation. It was fun to check the list and realize we are very good at doing a lot of things right. I have to add that I was proud that we do what we do correctly. Although we do not present ourselves in contest situations frequently. I have all the confidence in the world if we were to decide we wanted to pursue that track we could be very good at it. Another point that bore out was the benefits of good coaching. We are very fortunate to have the benefit of Dr. Pittman. His work with our chapter has made a significant difference in how we sing. Perhaps we should look at some coaching in the presentation arena. We do this very well, but Gary Drown pointed out that any coaching can make an immediate difference. Good coaching could only stand to make us better than we already are. The HHH experience is a good one. It is my hope that more of our members will take advantage of this even in the future. It is one of those things where if participation continues to wane as it has, I am sure there will be some serious doubts as to whether we should even continue it. I am completing this article from the SUNNY, HUMID ( Kansas is NOT humid, by the way) and RAINY (6 inches since arriving Thursday) state of Louisiana. I hated to miss this meeting this past Thursday. I look forward to seeing you all next week. We are gearing up for our Sunday performances. Thanks to your President getting some info from Mike Sexton all twisted around, there has been some confusion. We should be on track now. I hope we can have good participation from the Chapter at these events. The churches love it when we visit and this is a great opportunity to invite guests to come and sing with us. For you gentlemen that attend the churches that we will be visiting, do not hesitate to use this as an opportunity to farm out some perspective members. I always look forward to the Sunday Sing-Outs and hate it when I have to miss one. While some Sundays can be very busy, this will be a great opportunity and I hope as many as possible can make it out. Your President, Rodney |
