Thursday evening. Four quartets retired including the The Ritz, Revival (our chapter's 1998 guest quartet), Michigan Jake, and Gas House Gang. We doubt if there were a dry eye in the audience when Jim Henry reminisced about his late brother Rob, who died of cancer last September. With the wonders of modern technology, Rob sang his part of a song where he was highlighted on the video screen while the other three members sang with him live on stage. At the World Harmony Jamboree we enjoyed hearing the Musical Island Boys from Tawa College, Victoria University in New Zealand who tied for third in the Collegiate Chorus contest. We made sure to attend the Good News! Gospel Sing. We enjoyed singing songs in barbershop arrangements in the Cathedral of the Assumption hosted by Happiness Emporium quartet and guest directors of Jim Clancy, Stephen Ditchfield, Darryl Flinn and Bruce Odell. Guest performers were Four Voices quartet, The Ditchfield Family Singers and Happiness Emporium. |

Kansas City Chapter was a semi-finalist placing eleventh and singing as the mike testers for the finals. Also, the collegiate quartet, Vocal Spectrum, Lindenwood University in St. Charles Chapter swept the MBNA America Collegiate Barbershop Quartet Contest, outdistancing nearest rivals by a comfortable ten percent margin. Also, we were happy for the Heart of America chorus, Kansas City who placed thirteenth. 1,538 men in total sang in the choruses Saturday afternoon with 160 being in the Ambassadors of Harmony. Probably the greatest surprise in the quartet contest was the placing of Real Time, a young quartet from the Evergreen District. They were fifteenth in the quarterfinals and placed seventh in the finals. We heard Jim Clancy of the Dallas Vocal Majority say, "Where did these guys come from?" It was also pleasing to see a very young chorus, The Westminster Chorus (from California) place ninth with all of them under the age of 29! Shows: Janet and Harvey attended the Tuesday evening show where the 4 Voices, 2004 International Champion quartet, and the Lee College Chorus Singers as well as the Swingle Singers performed. Probably the most moving program we attended was the AIC (Association of International Champion quartets) Show on |
