Show Preparations
By Don Thomson, Spring Show Producer

The preparations for the show are coming along very nicely. Our "Creative Committee" has come up with some very interesting and entertaining ideas this year. Many of you have commented that you like the songs selected, now I think you will also enjoy the scenes the committee has created to present them.  The cast is in place.  I still need to meet with them before I reveal their names…but they are experienced actors.  Pat and Paula Caffey will be working on sets again this year, but they may need some help. If you are interested in working on the sets, please tell Pat.  He will probably be starting his work in a few weeks.

Please note a MAJOR change to the schedule handed out to you just last week! We had requested Thursday evening to be our "tech rehearsal" at McCain; however the auditorium is booked for that evening. Therefore our "tech rehearsal" will be on WEDNESDAY, APRIL 21.  Please put that date on your calendar and reserve it. We will rehearse at our normal place/time on Thursday evening with our performance(s) on Saturday, April 24.

Your main effort at this time should be on LEARNING THE MUSIC!!!  The learning schedule should be helpful to you, but if you can get off of the music sooner than the schedule dictates, it will be helpful to you, and Ken can do so much more with us. For some, this little trick can help. Try singing without the music. If you make a mistake, just make a mental note about it and check it out later. This will reinforce what you already know, and will let you concentrate on any problem spots. If you continue to just read from the music every time we sing a song, you don't force yourself to memorize it.  One other thing, for most of us, learning the music requires that we look at it in between rehearsals. We can forget quite a bit if we only look at the music once a week. Try to make some time to go through the songs listed on the rehearsal schedule prior to coming to rehearsal. You may be surprised how much it helps to reinforce your learning.

I am very encouraged as to our progress to this point. The next few weeks of learning will be critical, however. In another month we will introducing choreography, and will almost be ready for our performance on March 6.  I really look forward to seeing each of you on Thursday evenings. It has been great to have such a great turn out to start the New Year!
