We've all heard the expression "practice makes perfect." The problem is we can learn something incorrectly and the bad habit becomes difficult to break, reverse or modify. I find that those reminders to sing with proper breath control and matching vowel sounds and to minimize those harsh consonants keep getting in the way of my relaxed singing for enjoyment. But, I'm afraid if I had the same attitude toward details under the direction of an athletic coach I probably would be warming the bench. We have no such rigid discipline in barbershopping, but the principles still apply. Master the basics and you'll feel good about your contribution and your fellow barbershoppers will join you in responding to the director - coach to make those good habits permanent. It's hard work and takes more time than two hours weekly. But the results are very rewarding. We have a busy schedule of performances over the next several months. By the time you read this newsletter we will have completed our Singing Valentine activity. Each year we bring happiness, tears of tender emotion and even humor to many who are recipients of a surprise. Thanks to Mr. Valentine, Bob Swenson, for organizing and motivating us all to do the various tasks - singing, passing out flyers, packaging roses, and all the other supporting activity that makes the event a big success. music. Number 6 indicates the public performance. April 24 is our grand Annual Show. The two performances will be a huge hit this year. A terrific repertoire with added entertainment highlights will make this Sentimental Journey show the best of all our other "bests." June 4 is our involvement in the concert dedicating the Larry Norvell Band Shell in City Park. We will be doing a number with band accompaniment plus other songs from our show. June and July are the months when we provide music for worship in many community churches. Specific dates are yet to be determined. Five full scholarships for our chapter mem |
