(Continued from page 2) VP of Chapter Development: Bob Ridley reported that the guest night has been scheduled for April 24 and that all youth policy forms necessary have been completed and returned. VP of Public Relations: Harvey Kiser reported that he has had success in getting six or seven articles about our chapter and activities in the Manhattan Mercury. He is working on a reporter for the Manhattan Mercury to visit our chapter during its preparation for the show as the basis for a news article. He has sent articles to the appropriate news outlets announcing the chapter's grants to music teachers. Director of Music: Don Thomson reported that preparation for the show "coming together" but he is a little disappointed in the number of people deciding not to sing on the show. Don has been trying to contact Reg Pittman for interaction with the chapter. He indicated concern about the inconsistency of attendance at our regular chapter meetings, especially during this period in preparation for the show. He has prepared a summer repertoire of some 15 songs which will be ready for rehearsal following the show. Show Chairman: Preston Chapel reported that he will be absent the next two meetings, but things are progressing well. Rodney Stanfield will handle the program with the request that the display ads be submitted by March 24. Decorative plants for the stage during the show will be provided by Blueville Nursery and the tech sheets are ready to go to McCain. Bart Bartholomew is to prepare the list of widows of the barbershoppers so that show tickets may be provided to them. The show flyers are ready for delivery to the post office. The handbills are ready and some have been distributed, and that the song list for the program is on schedule. Singing Valentines: Bob Swenson reported that our singing valentines venture was again successful with 144 valentines presented by using eight different chapter quartets. While not final, it appears that we netted approximately $3600 during this venture. Old Business: It was moved by Bob Swenson and seconded by Rich VanNevel that we remove from the table the motion from the last meeting regarding our continued support of the Manhattan Arts Center. Motion passed. |

The original motion was that we continue our association with the Manhattan Arts Chapter at the $250 sponsor level. In the discussion following it was determined that we should continue our support with the designation that our sponsorship be used to pursue music activities for youth in the community. Motion passed. New Business: It was moved by Harvey Kiser and seconded by Preston Chapel that the board elect Mike Sexton as Vice President of Music and Performance to replace Mike Shepherd who has moved from the community. Motion passed unanimously. It was moved by Ken Brooks and seconded by Bob Swenson that the chapter allocate $100 to secure a gift for the Harmony Foundation raffle at the Central States District convention this spring. The motion passed and the chair appointed service chairman Leonard Purvis to handle details surrounding this gift. It was moved by Bob Ridley and seconded by Harvey Kiser that the chapter purchase 20 additional visitors packets for gifts to visitors attending our meeting. Motion passed. It was moved by Harvey Kiser and seconded by Rich VanNevel that the chapter adopt April 24 as our next guest night. Motion passed. Adjournment: It was moved by Rich VanNevel and seconded by Preston Chapel that we adjourn. Vice President Bob Ridley led the group in singing "My Wild Irish Rose" at 9:01 PM. Good of the Chapter: It was reported that the show "Blast" was a great experience for the St. George School choir. Our chapter sponsored their attendance at that concert while they were in Wichita. While there is some concern about our chapter going to a two-show format, it was announced that some chapters, even those smaller than ours, present three shows in a weekend. The next meeting will be held April 14, 2003 at 7:30 PM, at the Westbank Townhomes Clubhouse. Bob Ridley has volunteered to provide refreshments for that meeting. |
