Dave Fink was awarded the December 2009 Barbershopper of the Month for his exemplary contribution in fulfilling the goals of our chapter, district and Society.   He facilitated the complicated registration process for the Central States District Fall Convention and Contests held in Lincoln.  He made sure all of the members were informed about the process for the contest and was the ‘point’ man to coordinate the chorus’s movement through the pattern leading to the competition stage.  Dave, this BOTM award is one way we can thank you for you contribution and leadership related to the convention.♪

Harvey Kiser.

Brian Arthaud-Day receives the November 2009 Barbershop Of The Month from Harvey Kiser, president.  Thank you Brian for being there working behind the scenes, serving as the bass sectional leader helping us to improve our singing, and taking the initiative in warming us up at the CSD convention in Lincoln in October.  Your contributions are instrumental to help our Manhattan Barbershop Society Chapter fulfill its goals.♪

Thank you dear Lord for Music By John Thomason

Thursday evening, Dec 17, the Little Apple Chorus held their annual Banquet and Installation of Officers.  The event was well attended by member Barbershoppers and their spouses.  Special Guest, Don Fuson, past CSD President, conducted the installation of Officers for 2010.  Outgoing Chapter President Harvey Kaiser presented a video review of his past two years as our Chapter Leader.  Editor of the “Incider Press”, Karen Nanninga, was presented a plaque in recognition of her Award of the “Best on-line Chapter Newsletter” for the Central States District for 2009.  Congratulations Karen and THANK YOU!

The great meal was catered again by Ramblers and the turkey and ham was “melt in your mouth” delicious!

Why do we have this event every year?  Why do we go to all the trouble?  We could ponder these questions for hours but I don’t believe that is necessary. The short answer is one word, MUSIC.    You know what someone said about “music soothing the sav

age breast”, how very true that is.  Music is a universal language that allows all of us to come together to focus on a common bond.  It causes us to come together as members of the Little Apple Chorus and “make a joyful noise”.  Yes, sometimes it is just that, a noise.  Ken reminds us of that quite often especially when we are learning a new song.  We persevere through the learning process and eventually the notes turn into beautiful Harmony.

That is why we do it!  We all Love MUSIC!  Although our talent and ability vary from member to member we love music and we want to SING!  The Barbershop Harmony is what has drawn us together in our special Chorus.  My special commitment for the future, and I hope it is yours as well, is to be the best singer I can be:  To practice and learn the notes and the words on my time, to come to our Thursday evening Chapter Meetings better prepared to sing my part, to make not only a joyful noise but a beautiful noise.

Merry Christmas and “Thank You Dear Lord for MUSIC”!
