This is an exciting and busy time of the year for our chapter as we prepare for our Singing Valentines February 13 & 14, chapter retreat Saturday, February 16 and spring show Saturday, April 26.  Each of us are learning our music, so that we can perfect it on the risers.  We learned the last two years how much better our performances can be as we spend more time off the music, and on the risers.

Bart Bartholomew in his November InCider article wrote, “I found the extra time on the risers (preparing for the district contest) to be beneficial.  As we have been told so often, everything starts to come together rapidly when you don’t have to hold a piece of music in your hand.”  Congrats to Bart because his InCider article was reprinted in the PROBEmoter in Jan/Mar 2008 issue.  The PROBEmoter is the newsletter of the Association of Public Relations and Bulleting Editors.

Singing and performing from the risers bring the chorus and quartets together as a team.  This team effort leads to a successful chapter.  We have other team activities behind the scenes.  Thanks to the Music Committee that leads us toward better singing.  The members of this committee are Tom Fish, vice president, music and performance; Ken Lang, director; Don Thomson, associate director; Myron Calhoun, assistant director; Ken Garwick, tenor sectional leader; Bob Swenson, lead sectional leader; Leonard Purvis, bass sectional leader; Steve Fisher, bari sectional leader; and Bob Ridley, music librarian.

Then the Creative Committee is working with the directors in developing the choreography for our show.  The members of this committee are Don Thomson, Bart Bartholomew, Steve Fisher, Gary Drake, Gene Klingler, Wayne Bailie, Chuck Marr, Pat and Paula Caffey.

We are preparing to present our Singing Valentines next month.  The Singing Valentine program is ably chaired and led by Bob Swenson.  Those on this committee are Chuck Marr, floral specialist; J. Lester Hooper, presenter school; Mike Sexton, venue locator; John Thomason, advertising, Bart Bartholomew, webmaster; Don Thomson, quartet promoter; Helen Cooper, hostess for quartet headquarters area assisted by Joan Thomson; Fred Wachsmuth hosting along with Steve Seals; Telva Swenson and Beth Marine, office supervisors; and Karen Nanninga, Paula Caffey, and Carol Hanson, office help.  Telva and other chapter ladies will prepare the candy kisses gift bags.

Another committee is planning the Chapter Retreat on Saturday, February 16 at the Activity Center of the First United Methodist Church.  Those serving on the committee are Bill Hanson, Chuck Marr, Tom Miles, Don Thomson, Bob Swenson, Steve Seals, Pat Caffey, and Harvey Kiser.  Bob is arranging for a CSD leader to be our clinician.  Our ladies are organizing the food for the break and luncheon.

Jim Lindquist, show chair, reports that 35 other persons have agreed to provide leadership for the spring show along with Don Thomson, the performance chair.  Those who will chair their respective subcommittees are Pat Caffey, props; Bart Bartholomew, audio visual; Fred Wachsmuth, stage/risers; John Thomason, advertising; John Desper, show program booklet and ads; Steve Fisher, ticket continued on page 3
