What a great and exciting week for barbershop singers!  We have a day and a half for our quartets performing Singing Valentines, and Saturday is a day for everyone to sing during our Second Annual Chapter Retreat.

Bob Swenson and his team have successfully organized Singing Valentines – orders are coming in by phone and through the chapter website, and quartets are ready to present their songs, cards, roses, and candy kisses with Polaroid or digital photos.  Thanks to our ladies for helping Telva with packaging the candy kisses and for their help at the headquarters and the quartet lounge during these two days.

The retreat will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16  in the Harris Activity Center with registration and singing starting at 9:00 a.m. concluding at 2:20 p.m. (We were glad to find one of the Saturdays in February open at the Activity Center.) Breakfast snack will include Mrs. Powell’s cinnamon rolls, coffee, juice and fruit before singing.  Our ladies are helping again this week by arranging the food for our breakfast snack and lunch.

Our clinician, Byron Myers, will work with us on three of our songs that we are preparing for our spring show.  Byron is a member of the Voices of America Chorus, St. Joseph, MO.  He has directed the Pony Express Men (BHS) to 14 trips to the International Competition (Intl. 5th placed medalist), and has directed the American Barbers Boys [now…Voices of America] for two trips to the International for a 10th place.  Byron has a degree in Music Education with an additional 54 hours of degree work, and is a CDWI Certified trained for 11 years.  He is also involved with church, country, dance band, opera, symphonic and rock music.  I think we will be enthused by what we learn in performing these songs.

It is great to have the faith and trust that chapter members and their ladies will fulfill their commitments of organizing our events and preparing to sing in accomplishing our vision of “proclaiming, perpetuating and enjoying the a cappella barbershop music art form.”♪

This is the week to sing

Now is a good time to be thinking about ticket sales.  Our success depends on each of us selling tickets individually. Corporate sales are a very nice thing to have, but if we fail to do our part individually, we will not achieve the success we need.  I would encourage each of us to start writing down the names of the family members, friends, neighbors, church family and church choir members, social acquaintances, etc. on a piece of paper or a card and be ready to offer them the opportunity to come to our show in April.

I know that many, if not most of you, will sell a lot more than ten tickets, but I would hope that each of us would commit to selling at least ten (10) tickets for your fund raising part of the show.  Each of us knows at least that many people (or five couples) we can approach.♪

Start getting tickets sold
