How to register for the convention Bob Swenson, CSD Convention Registrar |
|
Since there have been several questions about what needs to happen to assure your participation in the Central States District Convention on October 19-21, perhaps these comments may help you in getting signed up for what you want. There are three steps necessary for participation in that weekend, but two of the steps may be optional. We refer to the whole process as 1) Entering, 2) Reserving, and 3) Registering. Entering has to do with entering the contests in order to compete. This step is required of all competing choruses and quartets. In the case of the Little Apple Chorus, step 1) Entering, will be handled by your chapter officers and directors. Our lone quartet entry, Late Night Edition, has already accomplished this step. The second step is 2) Reserving. This refers to reserving your housing if you plan to stay Friday and/or Saturday evening in Kansas City to further enjoy the convention activities. You may reserve either Friday night (October 19) and/or Saturday night (October 20) lodging through our District Housing Chairman Larry Warrick. You may contact him through the Central States District Website at www.centralstatesdistrict.com. Be prepared to provide a credit card to guarantee your first night's stay. Rooms are $100 or $110 per night. Do this soon as the housing deadline is fast approaching and the room rates will revert to the Kansas City Downtown Marriott's regular rate. If you are simply going down for the competition on Saturday and plan on returning that evening, you need not worry about steps 1) Entering and 2) Reserving. As you might guess, step 3) Registering is slightly more complicated based upon your choices as to how much of the convention you want to see, and how many are accompanying you. Since the chapter will pay your regular (competitor) registration fee of $33 if you sing with the chorus, then you need to handle the registration costs of your spouse/friend, and any others in your family who may be attending with you. There are two levels of registration. The regular registration is required of all competitors. This regular registration provides a reserved seat at all three of the competition sessions held throughout the weekend. You can see the district website for the schedule of events. The super registration is $10 higher and includes admission to a special past-champs show on Friday evening after the quartet semifinals. If you want to attend this event you need to upgrade your regular registration ($33) to a super registration ($43) by paying the difference. This event will be $12 at the door, but is offered at a discount to regular registrants who commit to attending and pay in advance of the convention weekend. Seats for the past champ show are not reserved and that show will be held in the Marriott Ballroom area. So to register for the convention you need to know what you and your family intend to participate in that weekend. In all cases remember that the chapter is paying your regular registration fee of $33, regardless of the level of your participation. Please remember to register your relatives and friends at the same time, since seats are assigned contiguously. There will be single-event registrations available, which means your Continued on page 4 |
