InCider Press, a monthly publication,  is the official publication of the Manhattan, Kansas  chapter of the Central States District (CSD) of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

The Manhattan Chapter is the home of the Little Apple Chorus.  The chapter and chorus meet  every Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church Activity Center on the corner of Poyntz and  6th Street, Manhattan, Kansas.

For more information about meetings or joining call or write to the Editor. (see below)

I think you'll recognize the title above being associated more with the Christmas season, but somehow it seems appropriate for us in mid-May.  I can't decide whether this is the start of the second or third season of this year for our chapter.  I'm sure some will count Singing Valentines as a separate "season" all to it's own,  and if you do, then we're now in the third "season" of our barbershop year.

This may be considered the relaxing "season" where the pressure isn't great and we can just have fun at our hobby.  Well, we sure want you to have fun, but to keep up the tempo, we've got some exciting things coming up.  June finds us visiting the Topeka Chapter on the 19th, and one week later, we're performing with the City Band for their weekly concert.

Add to these two important events some church performances, and already it appears that our third season will be a fun one indeed.  July will find some of us away for the International Convention in Denver, and then there will be more church performances.  Perhaps we'll have a little breather in August when the July church performances are over.  But no, guess what, our fourth "season" will be started by then.

That's the season of learning where we'll be starting to get serious about show music, but this year, we're going to have an additional challenge.  We will compete in the Central States District Contest in Kansas City the weekend of October 20.  So mark that date on your calendar!  This will be the first time in a long time that we have competed in two successive contests, but we feel the rewards of competition are well worth the effort.

So while the "seasons" are passing may I encourage you to make as many chapter meetings as possible.  Yes we know that vacations, summer obligations, kids (and grandkids) ballgames, and many other activities cut into our attendance, but if you'll make the effort to be at chapter meetings every possible time you can, you'll help us get over the summer season in good shape.

And while I'm talking attendance, plan now to do more than just attend the chorus competition on October 20.  Many of us have found that attending the whole weekend convention is a fun time indeed.  Yes, it requires one or two overnight stays in Kansas City, but that is a wonderful break in your weekly routine.  Our CSD Conventions are well run events.  They have many activities for you to involve yourself in and you will find new friends and experience a great get-away weekend of barbershop harmony. ♪

It is the season

Congratulations!  You all helped to make the Central States District number 2 in the Society in membership growth. Thank you for your recruitment efforts in the past and thank you for your efforts toward making May 17th a great Open House event for our chapter. ♪
