InCider Press, a monthly publication,  is the official publication of the Manhattan, Kansas  chapter of the Central States District (CSD) of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

The Manhattan Chapter is the home of the Little Apple Chorus.  The chapter and chorus meet  every Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church Activity Center on the corner of Poyntz and  6th Street, Manhattan, Kansas.

For more information about meetings or joining call or write to the Editor. (see below)

Boy, are things happening fast in our chapter.  Maybe it's my age, but it seems just yesterday that we had a great chapter retreat, but then came Singing Valentines, now with Jim DeBusman's visit (probably over with by the time you read this), and we're heavy into show preparation.

I'd like to emphasize this latter subject with you in this message.  Our Spring show is our pinnacle of the year.  Yes we do great performances for the churches during the summer, at the rest homes in December, and other places we have been fortunate enough to sing.  But this is the one time when our audience comes to us.  It's our venue, it's our chorus and quartets.  Unlike our other performances, our audience has a choice as to whether or not to attend our show.

We all know we'd like to see more people attend our show.  There is only one way that can happen, and it starts with the guy you see shaving himself in the mirror.  Only you can invite your friends and neighbors to witness a truly entertaining afternoon or evening.  If you don't ask them to come, they will wonder why you didn't.

The same principle applies to selling ads for the show.  You all do business with people here in the community.  Our small businessmen appreciate your patronage and generally will support local endeavors because they know groups like ours do a lot of good in building the quality of life we enjoy.

So whether it's show tickets to your friends, or ad sales to your business associates, don't be afraid to ask for the sale.  You compliment them by asking, and the worst that can happen is that you get a refusal.  If that happens, suggest that perhaps next year will be a better time.  You'll not have lost any favor with them, and they'll know you care.

I'm pretty sure others are going to be encouraging near perfect attendance as we get in the final preparation stages of our show.  It is difficult to do the choreography when the guy next to you isn't there to help.  So if you'll fill your spot on the risers each rehearsal from now to show, you'll at least not be hindering those around you.  Please plan on making every effort to be at each chapter meeting from now on.

We have a lot of great things happening each chapter meeting.  We need your participation each and every meeting,  You can help us greatly produce yet another great performance at our annual show. Come, join in the fun and fellowship!
