InCider Press, a monthly publication,  is the official publication of the Manhattan, Kansas  chapter of the Central States District (CSD) of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

The Manhattan Chapter is the home of the Little Apple Chorus.  The chapter and chorus meet  every Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church Activity Center on the corner of Poyntz and  6th Street, Manhattan, Kansas.

For more information about meetings or joining call or write to the Editor. (see below)

A fun-filled retreat of singing for each chapter member will be Saturday, February 3rd in the Activity Center of the First United Methodist Church.  We will start at 8:30 a.m. with complimentary coffee and pastries during registration.  Lunch will be provided for a small donation.  The retreat will adjourn at 2:00 p.m.

To increase our enjoyment of the day, we are inviting a Society Keynoter to lead us, along with our own top-notch music team, in song.  Our theme is: “Best—How Do We Make It Better?   Six time slots are planned for singing tags and show songs and woodshedding.  We can “hone” our craft during these times for improved barbershop singing.

We will discuss what we want to do in our chapter this year and on into next year.  This retreat offers us a chance to become more acquainted with each other. Twenty members (over ¼ of the chapter) have joined us in the past four years.  Let’s have a great time in singing and discussing how we can accomplish our chapter’s vision, mission and objectives?

The day is designed to continue and sustain our progress in moving forward in “Building a Healthy Organization.”  SEE YOU ALL ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 3 AT 8:30 A.M.  COME FOR FUN. PLANNING AND SINGING WITH EACH OTHER.

Harvey Kiser, VP, Marketing and Public Relations

A fun retreat for you to enjoy

Riser etiquette

I am going to give you the Ten Commandments of Riser Etiquette over the 3 editions, so you can have them all before the Spring Show.  There are enough new members who maybe haven’t heard them and a review doesn't hurt anyone.

1. No talking while on Risers

a...unless given permission by the director

       b. Being on the risers is not a social time.

       c. The director will give you time to relax and visit

       d.  For questions needing an immediate response raise your hand

2  The Primary Position while on the risers is “LEAN AND BEAM”

        a. There will be times when you are asked to make gestures

        b.  There will be times when you are asked not to “beam”

3   Primary focus is on the director

        a.  No eye darting

        b. Your relationship is with the director (not your neighbor).

        c. At times the director may ask you to have a relationship with the

           audience.
