January 2007                                             InCider Press                                                        Page 3

What a wonderful celebration we shared at our December Installation banquet!   Don Fuson challenged us to keep the Manhattan Chapter moving forward in 2007 and we promised to do that.  The Caroling beforehand, the fellowship of the banquet,  hearing our "old" quartets, our "old" quartets with new members, and our "new" quartets made a wonderful evening of harmony.  And we even got up there as a chorus without the music and sang "Hey, Look Me Over" for our guests!  Why do we still grab the music during our rehearsals?

Highlighting the evening was the awarding of Barbershopper of the Year to Bill Hanson which was well deserved.  You can feel the warmth of our chapter as he greets you before the meeting.  He has turned our meeting into a welcoming experience for those old and new who come through our doors.  Is that the reason we're growing?

But behind the greeting you get, there is much other work put into Bill's position as our Chapter Development Vice President.  He's there early, has things set up, and makes sure our meetings are run efficiently.  It is no small contribution of time and talent Bill has invested in our chapter. Congratulations, Bill.

As promised, there is much ahead for 2007.  Our Chapter Retreat is just around the corner on February 3.  Singing Valentines will be over in less than 30 days.  We have Jim Debusman visiting us in March. We need to schedule a  performance in Olsburg this spring, and of course our Spring Show will be here soon.

April 28 is not that far away we have only about 40 hours of chapter meeting left to prepare.  By then we'll be talking about performances in local churches, a summer picnic or gathering of some kind and pretty soon we'll wonder where the year went!

And so the importance of the retreat looms as very important to us.  I know some of you may have doubts about investing 5 hours of your time in this venture, but we are confident you'll be rewarded.  I hope you remember the words of Tom Miles.  He was a doubter and in just a few minutes of talking about it, changed his mind and will be sharing with us.

The planning committee is working hard to make this a wonderful event.  We hope to make you more aware of our chapter's workings.  We're going to be asking your opinion of several facets of our chapter.  We're going to Sing, harmonize, learn tags, and enjoy each other's company and fellowship in a new way.  If you don't come away from this event with a smile on your face, better call the undertaker!

Rarin' to GO!

The inner-workings of Singing Valentines will be explained via a special flyer available on January 18, and in just 11 days after the retreat we'll be in full swing with one of our biggest money-makers of the year.  There are many jobs to be filled for this event so jump in there where you can.  J. Lester Hooper will again conduct our presenter schools at 7:00 on February 1 and February 8.  Chuck Marr has the roses ordered, and Harvey Kiser will be heading up the advertising.  Mike Sexton has arranged for the facilities we'll be using.  Quartets wishing to help us with Singing Valentines will be coached and approved by music directors Don Thomson and Ken Lang

So there's much happening in the Little Apple Chorus!  Come join in the fun as we share together.  I think you'll find the officers, directors and members Rarin' to GO!

 Bob Swenson President

At the monthly board meeting on January 15th the board decided that the price of show tickets will be $15 in advance and $18 at the door.  The board also set the policy for the price of program ads and the number of tickets to be given with the purchase of each ad.

We will use the Commons Room at St. Paul's Episcopal Church for the quartets to gather, warm up, and be dispatched to do Singing Valentines.  Chuck Marr indicated the roses will probably be assembled the Tuesday before Valentine's day.  Bob Swenson indicated the party for all members and participants in the singing valentines and their spouses or girl friends will be at Sirloin Stockade this year.

It was decided that spouses who assist with the annual show, by performing such jobs as applying make-up or acting as ushers, will be given complimentary show tickets.

On March 15th Jim Debussman, Society Music Specialist, will be in Manhattan.  In addition to attending our chapter meeting, there was a discussion about how to best use his services.  If any chapter member has a suggestion in that regard, he should contact Bob Swenson.
