I'm continually impressed about the way our chapter is progressing toward what I'm sure will be another "best ever" annual show. Every year I get several compliments from friends and acquaintances stating that the show just witnessed was our "best ever". I'm sure it will be that way again this year. So what are the contributing factors to the "best ever" shows we continually produce? Probably most of us would put Don Thomson and the creative committee at the head of the list. They start early developing the theme and music, then continue supervision of the production of each number that comprise our show. I can't and I bet most of us cannot name the members of the creative committee. They are just one of the "behind the scenes" activities that make our chapter function so well. What may seem to be a small commitment from each member of this committee ends up having profound results! Another contributor to the "best ever" scenario is our music leadership under the direction of Ken Lang. His enthusiasm, sarcasm, and just plain "telling it like it is" attitude make us all want to do our best as members of the chorus. Certainly his leadership adds much to the "best ever" scenario. But then let's look further into what makes us function well. Is it the friendly handshake offered by Bill Hanson each chapter meeting that gets you fired up? Is Chuck Marr's assurance that we have the correct uniforms available a welcome help? Is it the fact that the riser crew already has the room ready for the evening's activities? Is John Trail's helpfulness as host at the breaks contagious? Does the presence of costume experts tell you something big is coming? Does reading about our chapter in print supervised by Karen and Terry Nanninga and Harvey Kiser give you a sense of pride in what we're doing? Then we need also to look at the great organizational skills of show chairman Jim Lindquist who has dozens of guys working to cover all aspects of our show, from ad sales chair Pete Cooper, to ticket master Chaz Martin, to usher-guy Ken Lyle, to program producer Gary Mott, to Award of Harmony chair David Darling, we see evidence that it is all coming together for another "best ever"! I'm sure I've failed to mention some members that are making significant contributions to our chapter's success, both as a functioning club and as a musical performance group. To you, I apologize for the oversight, but welcome your unnamed contributions that continually bless us with success. Perhaps I'm calling the play a little early, but somehow I feel this show will truly be a wonderful experience. I'm getting goose bumps now as we prepare for the show. I know Saturday April 28 will be a truly great day that will live in our hearts until the next "best ever"! What can you do to experience this "best ever" event? You already know. Show up to every rehearsal, on time and eager to learn. Practice your choreography and music on your own. Enjoy the comraderie of your fellow chapter members. Volunteer to help on projects you can handle. Be attentive to directions and instructions. Sell tickets to your friends and family. Invite everyone you know to witness our show. Expect our show to be the "best ever". It surely will! ♪ |
