The Little Apple Chorus will perform for six Chapel Services on Fort Riley Sunday, 17 September 2006. This will be our second year of sharing some harmony with our Army neighbors. Many of these Soldiers are preparing to deploy into Iraq again, some for the third time. This week is the fifth anniversary of the 9-11 attack on America. This is a great way to say thanks to the young men and women who continue to fight the war on terrorism. Please join the Chorus for an inspiring, fun and heart felt thanks tour of six Chapel services on Fort Riley. Our summer dress (polo shirts, khaki pants, and brown shoes) should be worn. For our Active Duty and Retirees, Class A’s is an alternative. We will be transported by an Army bus from the Ogden Community Center. Be on the bus prior to 8:00 AM. Please extend thanks to Chaplain (COL) Kenneth Sampson for his efforts to coordinate the schedule with the Chaplains and for providing the bus. A few days after this, Chaplain Sampson will report to his new assignment. 0800 Bus leaves the Ogden Community Center (capacity 40, If we have more – several will drive) 0820 Warm-up, Morris Hill Chapel 0900 Morris Hill Chapel 0930 Kapaun Chapel 1000 BREAK @ Main Post Chapel 1040 Main Post Chapel 1100 St. Mary’s Chapel 1130 Kapaun Chapel (Contemporary Service) 1215 Morris Hill Chapel (Gospel Service) 1245 Bus arrives back at Ogden Community Center Gary Drake ♪ |

Since the chorus show in April, The Charades have continued to do quite a few sing-outs. In May we sang for the First Christian Church minister’s 25th anniversary of his ordination. That was followed by a performance at the Alumni Center for an Insurance Companies Awards banquet. During the summer we take some time off to travel. Leonard and Sharon did their traveling earlier in the year when they went to Hawaii. Jim and Jolene then headed out west to attend a high school graduation. The quartet squeezed in a show as we sang at Harvey Kaiser’s retirement celebration. Gene and Phyllis were the next ones off to explore Yellowstone National park with their daughter, son-in-law and grandkids. Ken and Cindy then departed for Switzerland and Austria in celebration of their 35th anniversary, Trips out of the way we were back singing again. We sang at Frank Bradley’s funeral July 29th, did a 50th anniversary celebration July 30th for relatives of Terry and Karen Nanninga, did another 50th anniversary celebration July 5th, and finished the week with a Family Reunion church service at The Barn in Valley Falls. Mid-August found us providing special music for First Christian Church. September will find us singing for a birthday celebration, singing September 17: with the chorus, at the picnic and ending the day performing for a group from St. Thomas Moore. The month will end with a performance in Junction City for an Authors Club. After that…….who knows? Ken Garwick Tenor ♪ |
