InCider Press, a monthly publication,  is the official publication of the Manhattan, Kansas  chapter of the Central States District (CSD) of the Barbershop Harmony Society. The Manhattan Chapter is the home of the Little Apple Chorus.

The chapter and chorus meet  every Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church Activity Center on the corner of Poyntz and  6th Street, Manhattan, Kansas.

For more information about meetings or joining call or write to the Editor. (see below)

There are a lot of exciting things coming up in our chapter's activities over the next few months that will expand our horizons as we view them through our barbershop eyes.  Let me be the first to invite you to participate in all of them, hoping they will benefit all of us

As we move into the "large chapter" category, it seems more and more difficult to provide activities interesting and challenging enough to attract a large portion of our membership.  I know we live in a community with a lot of events that pull us away to participate in those events rather than our chapter's activities, but as responsible leaders, our chapter board continually approves events that are of benefit to the chapter, the community, and our members.

Therefore, consider this a "call to arms"!  We have a lot of activities planned and I encourage your participation.  Several of them have "sign up" sheets, but don't let your inability to commit to these events now govern your attendance later should your plans change.  We are a welcoming group and if you are available at the last minute, "come on down!".

Of particular note is the upcoming performances at the Ft. Riley Chapels this coming Sunday.   Wow, those of us who were there last year know what an uplifting experience it was to sing with and for those men serving our country.  Emotions ran high as we witnessed guys in their fatigues ready ship out in a few hours, or shared the ultimate joy of the gospel service.  Words just can't explain what the heart experienced that day.  It's bound to happen again, so join us.

And now were concluding our experience at Ft. Riley with a chapter get together and picnic in the Manhattan city park pavilion at noon (1:00PM).  There will be fun with VLQ's, sharing a catered meal, and fellowship as we meet some of our newer members and their families.  And the low cost ($5 adult, kids free) sure shouldn't keep you away!

Those of us who could not go to Hutchinson for the State Fair have another chance to sing with the Kansas Men's Barbershop Chorus since they are performing in Abilene on September 30.  It's a short drive over there, and the time commitment is considerably less, giving you almost all of Saturday afternoon for your regular weekend activities.

And don't stay away from our participation in the Central States District 60th Anniversary Convention in Wichita on October 7th.  If plans work out, we'll have a chartered bus for that trip, and you'll experience some of the finest quartets and choruses you'll ever hear while there.

Musically, we've got most of next year's show songs in our folders, and are beginning to get "off the paper" so we can get on the risers.  Wonderful music has been selected, and the creative committee will again provide us with the vehicle to present a truly fantastic show in April.  You need to help us in learning the choreography which will be starting earlier this season.
