I sometimes wish I had a standard title for my messages to you, but then again it might be somewhat restricting. I try to address different issues each article, and this month is no different. We are entering a very busy time of the year for our chapter, and while attendance at chapter meetings has been good, I know it can improve. Slowly we see the "old crew" begin to attend regularly again as we near the "hard core" preparation for the show. But of course there are other advantages of attendance now. We've got our Christmas performance and installation banquet on December 14th, an all-chapter retreat on February 3rd, then it's preparation for Singing Valentines, Jim Debusman's visit in March, and the show in April. Somewhere in there is the Central States District Convention, and undoubtedly there will be other "distractions", that may limit everyone's 100% attendance. So you see, it really isn't that long until the annual show, and we need everybody at every chapter meeting so that we can perfect the riser configuration and practice the choreography and music as near to how we're going to present it. There is a rumor that we may sing "shotgun" this year, so your extra effort early in learning music and moves may help the whole presentation. And while you're at it, get around to meeting the new members that are coming on board. Our recruitment processes seem to be working, and we may sing with the largest every chorus this coming Spring. There are some unique guys that have joined us and I know you'll enjoy meeting and singing with them. I know I enjoy the extra guys on the risers, and the promise still stands that if we need more risers (we've got seven now!) we'll add them. I would encourage your regular and exuberant participation as we work out the details of the show. Our guys up front aren't professional choreographers, but have excellent ideas of what they want to accomplish. Yes it may be frustrating at times, but your participation in the process makes it easier. It is difficult to plan and carry out choreography when there are "holes" in the chorus. Make sure your hole is filled! Your officers are working hard in the background to make each meeting a success, and we do not know the countless hours that some spend in preparation for each week's meeting. You are the beneficiary of that hard work when you attend, and by attending, you help us move ONWARD AND UPWARD! Bob Swenson President ♪ |
