InCider Press, a monthly publication,  is the official publication of the Manhattan, Kansas  chapter of the Central States District (CSD) of the Barbershop Harmony Society.
The Manhattan Chapter is the home of the Little Apple Chorus.

The chapter and chorus meet  every Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church Activity Center on the corner of Poyntz and  6th Street, Manhattan, Kansas.

For more information about meetings or joining call or write to the Editor. (see below)

In the afterglow of a great and successful spring show the board of the Little Apple Chorus met on May 8th. At least two members sent letters with comments about the show and added suggestions for improvements for the next years show. If you would like to add your input and thoughts to this very important process write them down and get them to any of the board members.

The board will be conducting a survey shortly to get the opinions of the membership on whether to hold one or two shows next year. The date that McCain has given us for next year is April 28th. The board needs you to express yourself, to look at all possibilities, pro and cons of the afternoon and evening performances.

According to the ticket count we had 999 paid attendee’s at this year’s show. While this was successful financially we still had a lot of empty seats. Think about what you could do to add to the number in attendance. We have a very diverse membership with one common goal to bring the best barbershop music to each performance we give.  Who could you have invited to attend, that would have brought in someone to have been uplifted or entertained by our performance?

If we do not express our thoughts and opinions to the leaders of our chapter we can expect things to continue much the same as it always has been. This is your chapter and together we can make to better. Let’s continue to enjoy the music and fellowship we have together.

This is my editorial opinion and thoughts.

Plans are in place for the open house to be held on May 18th.  Our directors will have a good participatory program in place for our guests. We will send invitations to any prospects you identify as well as the ones who indicated interest from the show cards. We need immediate help in getting the names and addresses of anyone you would like to have in attendance. Remember that most of us came that first time because someone asked us to come. Membership begins with ME. ♪

Myron Carpenter was presented the first Barbershopper of The Month Award presented by the Manhattan Chapter at the April 13th meeting.  This award is a new recognition approved by the chapter board.   The award is used to recognize those guys who excel in their contribution towards the success of the chapter, and will be awarded by consensus of the board.  Any chapter member or officer is able to win this award. Myron's award was for March, 2006, but more accurately should be considered a multi-month or multi-year award for his involvement in setting up and taking down the risers before and after each chapter meeting.  Myron has headed this crew for several years now, and has earned the respect of the chapter for his dedication to this important task.     Thank you, Myron, for your willingness to take on this important responsibility!  Bob Swenson
