One of the things I enjoy about this chorus and this chapter is that it is full of talented and energetic guys. We just finished presenting perhaps the best show this chorus has ever produced, and now we are preparing for another show in Waterville, several church performances in the summer months, a “shared rehearsal” with the Topeka chapter in a few weeks, a fall show in Olsburg, a special trip back to Ft. Riley in September…and we have already started on the music for our 2007 show. I could be tired just thinking about all the upcoming events, but quite honestly, it energizes me. I am excited about the new music, excited about having over 60 guys on the risers, excited about the young guys we have in our chapter now, and excited about seeing each member on Thursday evening. I am also excited that Ken has had so much time to spend with us, and his enthusiasm also energizes me. In Manhattan, KS,…”it’s (a) great (time) to be a Barbershopper”! During the summer months we like to spend more time encouraging men to get involved in quarteting. We will set aside some time most Thursday evenings to do some type of quartet activity. I encourage you to get involved in the activity. If you need some help in finding other parts, let Ken, Myron, or myself know, and we will do our best to help you. Also you can tell Bill Hanson that you would like to be part of a quartet which brings us back from break. I know that he will welcome your request. I hope that you are, like me, still “flying high” after the show. We really did perform as well as we could have expected. We were well prepared and we rose to the occasion. And, we sang as well on the evening performance as we did in the afternoon…even if several of us were fairly tired. We did our job well, and many, many people were entertained and made happy on that day. Thanks, again, for everyone who contributed so much in so many ways to bring that special day and those special occasions together. And, on a personal note, thank you for singing “Here’s To The Heroes”. That was truly a special moment for me…and I know that it touched a lot of hearts and souls that afternoon and evening. Quartet singing by eight quartets was enjoyed by approximately 75 chapter members, families, and guests Saturday, April 29 at the chapter’s Afterglow at the American Legion. Master of Ceremonies, Ken Garwick, appropriately introduced each quartet. The quartets who entertained the audience were: Classic Impressions, Men of A Chord, Willie’s Boys, Apple Coretet, Sweet Adeline quartet Harmonious Synergy, the Manhattan Music Machine, The Charades, and Flipside, the featured guest quartet from the Evergreen District. Ken also showed his magic to future vocal teacher and chapter member, David Davis, on how to maintain the interest of his future students. Thanks guys for a great evening of barbershop quartet singing and entertainment. Harvey Kiser, VP, Marketing and Public Affairs ♪ |

The Barefoot Band performs before the show. This is what they look like for you chorus members, as you are back stage and don’t get to see their style of music. |
