This is the time of year when it is difficult to think about things to write. Coming off of an active time culminating with the show, it seems like it is time to step back and take a big breath. Fortunately it is a time when we can do both! We have a little pressure in preparing for our church performances, and we have a “mini-show” to prepare for, but this is also a time when we can enjoy the relaxed (a little bit maybe) personality of our director and enjoy the fraternization of other members. We have had quite good attendance this summer, however, when one of us is gone, it affects the whole chorus. This is the time of vacations, and other outside activities, but when you are gone, you are missed! I hope that we can have good participation in our church performances. When I see 37 names signed up for a Sunday performance, I get really excited. Then I think that we have in excess of 70 members, so that is only about ˝ of our members who would be singing together. Many of us have commitments to our own churches on Sunday morning (I teach an adult Sunday School class). In my case, I have arranged to have a substitute teach on those mornings when our chorus will be contributing to the worship experience of another church. I have noticed through the years that when our chorus sings in another church, the reception by those parishioners is almost indescribable. We do provide a big service and a Christian sacrifice by contributing to their services. I hope you all will want to be part of that. We get to sing at churches four (4) times this year. Once in Junctions City, twice in Manhattan, and culminating with a performance in several chapels at Ft. Riley in September. I understand that we will most likely have a chapter picnic on September 17th as well. I always look forward to that and have the privilege of seeing and visiting with the spouses and kids that we don’t get to see any other time during the year. One other thing. This is the best time to start organizing new quartets. Putting them together yourself is the best way, but if you want some help, please let me know. Several of you have told me that you would like to sing in a quartet. But, who would you like to sing with? What kind of commitment are you willing to make (like driving to rehearsals, meeting once a week, changing parts, etc)? I will be happy to sit down with you and discuss some of these things with you. Just let me know. Hope to see you next Thursday! Don Thomson Asst. Director ♪ |

A successful open house was held at the regular chapter meeting on Thursday May 18. If my memory serves me correctly we had 14 guests. Bill Hanson was our very able greeter and had organized most of the invitations. We often forget to say thanks to those who work behind the scenes to make these events work to benefit the whole chapter. I would also like to recognize Bob Ridley for his work on keeping the music folders in good shape. We have purchased additional file cabinets to store all the music and still seem to run out of space. Remember to ask to see some of the materials that are in the library for checkout. I don’t remember all the things we have available but remember that we ordered some promotional items for new member orientation. The video of the show is also available for viewing. When you have prevailed upon your wife to be editor of the newsletter sometimes you have to write something just to fill all the spaces. I would hope that each one could write a short or long article and send it to her. This what keeps the newsletter about you. Don’t be afraid to make a suggestion or write for your newsletter. Remember membership begins with ME. Terry Nanninga ♪ |
