InCider Press, a monthly publication,  is the official publication of the Manhattan, Kansas  chapter of the Central States District (CSD) of the Barbershop Harmony Society.
The Manhattan Chapter is the home of the Little Apple Chorus.

The chapter and chorus meet  every Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church Activity Center on the corner of Poyntz and  6th Street, Manhattan, Kansas.

I wish all of you could have experienced the wonderful report Show Chairman Jim Lindquist gave to the board at its most recent meeting.  You know Jim to be well organized, and his report showed that basically all aspects of the show were well covered.

Sure, there were minor glitches, but planning and organization handled all the details and "bumps in the road" so that the show was quite successful.  Yes we could have had more attendees, we could have sung better, especially in the first performance, and yes, we could have done several other things to have made it more successful.

Jim's after-action report included responses that you, Mr. Chapter Member, gave to his survey following the show.  There were some excellent suggestion for next year that I'm sure we're going to try to implement.

The most significant thing you said though was that having Ken Lang at almost every rehearsal helped your own preparation for the show.  With Ken's consistent leadership, it seemed that the chorus followed that lead with better-than-average attendance.  Or was it that we're simply seeing more guys on the risers because we are a larger chorus than a  year ago?

The suggestions you offered in that survey were eye-opening indeed.  While it's easy to rest on the laurels of a job well-done, it is a little disturbing to those in leadership positions that we could have done better!

In analyzing what we could or should have done, nearly every point indicated that additional manpower would have been needed.  We know those involved in the planning, committee work, and preparation for the show gave at least 110% of their time and effort toward this show.

Additional manpower then, has to come from more people being involved.  And that is where you come in.  If you are one of the several guys who haven't been to chapter meeting since the show, you've missed something.

And we've missed you.  We can tell that our numbers are sagging at chapter rehearsals, but yet Ken Lang has been there consistently to introduce new music, improve our singing skills, and get us ready for our show in Waterville as well as church performances this summer.

Ken and Associate Director Don Thomson are an awesome team, and when we add Assistant Director Myron Calhoun to the mix, we have a music leadership team that other chapters would kill for!  We simply don't know how good we've got it!

So come on down to chapter meeting every chance you get.  We've still got the same things going as we did before the show.  There's new music to be learned, new guys to welcome, and new opportunities for fun and fellowship every chapter meeting.  Look elsewhere in this issue for a schedule of our upcoming events, and join in the fun.
