Over 90 of our members enjoyed a delightful evening on December 14 during our Caroling and Installation banquet event. Bedecked in bright winter vestments in spite of 55 degree temperatures, the VLQ's caroled at local retirement and care centers then combined forces for our Installation Banquet and Christmas Party at the local American Legion. My thanks to your chapter's first lady Telva for the beautiful table decorations that were given as attendance prizes to one lucky person at each table. While each of us has our own special memories of the occasion, I must admit that my personal best recollection was the impressive installation ceremony so ably conducted by CSD President-Elect Don Fuson. During that time and since, I have been reminded of the awesome responsibility we take on as chapter officers. Our charge is to further the interests of the chapter, committing our personal time and resources toward that effort. While most of it is quite enjoyable, behind it all is the still, ever-mindful thought that our inaction or failure to communicate could result in less than a great barbershop experience to all of you who've put your trust in your officers for the coming year. So my pledge to you for the coming year is to lead us onward and upward. Since Harvey Kiser will assume this office for 2008, my term is already defined in time, but how will that term measure up to your expectations? The goals have not yet been set, but I am confident that your chapter board will work diligently toward making the largest Kansas Barbershop chapter as successful as it can possible be. And how do we measure that success? Many years ago Eric Jackson, leader of the Lifeblood Experience that CSD hosted for three years, told us the we measure success by counting. We count the number of chairs we set up for each meeting, we count the number of risers our chorus uses. We count the number of people attending our chapter meetings and shows. We count the number of Singing Valentines we will deliver. We count the number of church performances and those who attend chapter picnics. We count the dollars and time given for other worthwhile causes. Yes, it is the counting that ultimately determines success, and toward building the numbers we've reached so far, we will diligently seek to raise every one to a new high. Seventy-six members is not a resting place but merely a point on our journey toward being the best that we can be. Likewise any other number we can recall that deals with our chapter is merely a point from which to begin building. Please join us in building a wonderful barbershop experience for all. Dedicate some of your personal time toward making our chapter the best it can be. Volunteer to learn music and choreography, be on time for chapter meetings, be attentive to our musical leadership, but most of all enjoy the experience of a wonderful hobby and fellowship. You, too, will have a wonderful time. Bob Swenson President ♪
