Yes we know it isn't even the end of the Holiday season, but as barbershoppers we've got to keep looking forward. While most of the Christmas Parties have been celebrated, there's more important responsibilities coming up in our chapter's existence. The first one: This is the date of our first (annual?) chapter retreat! This is a time for every member of the chapter to provide some input into our chapter's current and future operation. Early indications it will be from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM and include a pot-luck luncheon with our families about mid-day. Starting and ending early helps those that attend the KSU Basketball games get to Bramlage on time. OK then, what is a retreat you ask? It is an opportunity to meet for an extended period of time to focus on our chapter. Yes we'll sing, rehearse valentines and show songs, but we'll also do some deep thinking about what you'd like your chapter to provide to enhance your enjoyment of our hobby. In past years when we were a smaller chapter, most of the planning and development of ideas was done by the chapter board. Now that we're at least a medium-sized chapter, the planning, confirmation or augmentation of our vision and mission statements, building a calendar of future events, and determining what goals need to be accomplished in the next one to five years needs to be expanded so that the whole chapter can take ownership of our being. Your attendance is important to add your thoughts, voice, and momentum to this important event. Once the final plans have been made, we'll make them available during January. Watch for a sign-up sheet so that you can add your name and energy to this most important event. And how about: February 14, 2007 I think you can Identify this as a very important day in our chapter's life. The umpteenth annual $inging Valentine$ program will launch for the final time from 300 Yuma! Thereafter, the city will own our $inging Valentine$ birthplace for the southern portion of downtown redevelopment. During January those wishing to form quartets are welcome at the chapter meetings one-half hour early to rehearse those songs and try to find the right "other three" voices to make a dent in the number of $inging Valentine$ that our chapter typically delivers. Of course the wonderful party that evening is always fun as we relive the stories witnessed that day. For non-quartet members, there are drivers, presenters, dispatchers, rose preparation, advertising, phone answering, and a host of other responsibilities that make this our single most profitable day of the year. So come on down, find those "other three" or simply pitch in an help make this our most successful $inging Valentine$ ever! And what's April 28, 2007 If you guessed, you got it right - - Show. The creative committee has developed a wonderful show for us to deliver twice on that day. We've started to learn the music, and other aspects of the show are being put together for yet another local hit. Be ready to not only help us on the risers, but to help sell tickets, sell ads, rehearse, and enjoy our chapter's largest collective endeavor. McCain Auditorium needs to be filled for both the 2:00 and 7:30 shows. So be as regular as you can this spring in your attendance. It will help us all present a show we'll all be proud to witness.
