I'm Excited! Wow! What a time to be a Little Apple Barbershopper. We are in the final stages of polishing off what I think will be our best show ever (aren't they all?). It seems that the creative committee, ably guided by show genius Don Thomson, have put some wonderful thinking into our latest offering. I just can't wait to see it all unfold. We told you there were going to be surprises as we rehearse these last few times, and there have been already. But more are coming. So get there early, brush up on the lines you don't know for sure, and be ready to deliver a super show to our patrons. And speaking of patrons. I'm sure there's somebody you haven't asked to come to our show. Somebody that knows you are a barbershopper. Did you ever think that they'd be glad to come witness what you spend countless hours preparing. If you don't ask them, perhaps they'll think you're not proud of what you do. Go ahead, make that call. You'll compliment them by asking. What else can you do? Well, practice all those things that Director Ken Lang has asked you to do. It doesn't hurt to go over your lines or even mentally sing the song, then put your face to work selling the song. If we each spend just a little time self-rehearsing, the end product - - the combination of all of us complete with the choreographed moves and "faces that sell" - - will be a musical experience no one should miss. Being your President is a unique experience. I know I wasn't elected by a vote of the chapter, but still I gladly take the reins and ride along with you in this great journey. I promise to always have an ear to lend, a suggestion or two, and perhaps even a helping hand. I'm elated when the reports time at our board meeting takes over an hour so that each officer gets the chance to bring the others up to date on activities that our guys are taking on individually and collectively. It's exciting to know that even though the show is this month, we're laying plans for next month, and the next, and the next! Show Chairman Jim Lindquist and assistant Don Thomson seem to have everything in place for another successful show. The hall is rented, props are made, presentations polished, the ads are sold, the program is going together, details are being worked out daily, and it will come together with a great effort by all of us. So practice those parts you know you need work on, be early to chapter meeting and help set up the meeting room, stay late and sing in a quartet, or help return the room to its next usefulness. But most of all, enjoy your preparation and presentation! This is a wonderful hobby full of opportunities for close harmony and close friendships. Together we will create a wonderful time of sharing beautiful music, interpreting it for our audience, and sharing the rich harmony that only our style of music allows. It is great to be a barbershopper, and with our 31st annual show just about to get under way, I'm excited! Bob Swenson President |
