History

The Little Apple Chorus consists of acapella singers which are part of the International Barbershop Harmony society. We are associated with a district of that society called the Central States District.  Our chapter was ‘chartered’ the Barbershop Harmony Society in 1977 as the Quad County Chorus, later renamed the Grainbelters Chorus and then the Little Apple Barbershop Chorus when Manhattan adopted the logo and little apple theme.

The Chorus operates essentially as a ‘service club’ in our community since we engaged in a variety of community service activities and projects. We donate scholarships to KSU vocal music students, make grants to area middle and high school vocal music departments, sing at a variety of local venues including performances with the Manhattan Municipal band, special event performances, benefits concerts, and related events not only in Manhattan but in many surrounding communities.

Heartland Harmony History

Heartland Harmony was formed August of 2021 by a group of women who were all singers from various choruses in Manhattan and Wamego. Many ladies were former members of the award-winning Wamego Dutch Mill Chorus and others in the Sweet Adeline International organization. We all shared the love of a cappella style four-part harmony singing and were anxious to get back to it after the limitations and restrictions of Covid. The original 18 member decided early in 2022 to join the Barbershop Harmony Society and became the sister chapter of the Little Apple Barbershop Chorus and a part of the Central States District. The Central States District is composed of six states in the Midwest for men and women of all ages to come together for harmony and fellowship.
